Warning on Oil Slick

06/05/2010 17:16:35

The environmental cost of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico this week has been described as potentially an unprecedented environmental disaster, by President Obama.

The area the spill occured in is where the majority if US production of oysters and shrimp occur. To make things worse, the oil spill is currently threatening wetlands where a huge number of nesting birds have settled, with estimates of numbers up to ten thousand.

Along with the obvious threat to their features, should the birds feed on fish coated in the oil, then it could cause problems for the birds or their young.
