Canada: Fresh Outbreak in British Columbia Despite 60,000 Cull

12/02/2009 16:32:45

A Turkey farm in the Fraser Valley of British Columbia, has been confirmed to have a bird flu outbreak. The outbreak comes just days after 60,000 birds were culled following an outbreak at the end of January, which was also in the state of British Columbia. Authorities have stated that all the turkeys at on the newly infected farm will be culled also.

The strain of the avian influenza is reported to be a H5 variant, but one similar to the previous Canadian outbreak, and not as serious as the H5N1 strain currently circling SE Asia.
