China has confirmed a 21-year old woman has been infected with bird flu. Her condition is said to be stable, but the Chinese fatality rate for bird flu is around 66%, from reported cases. Despite 8 cases in just a month, the Chinese government has denied there is an epidemci in the 7 provinces from which the cases have come.

The number of human cases has led to concerns that some poultry cases are not being reported. the UN’s FAO has claimed that the human cases show that Bird Flu is circulating in avian environment. However bird flu cases in humans have not always been linked to animal cases.
