Third Fatality in Chinese Bird Flu Outbreak

20/01/2009 09:53:40

A 16-year-old male student has become the third fatality to bird flu in China this month. The news comes only days after a 27-year-old woman was confirmed dead, and with a 2-year-old girl still in critical condition after contracting the disease. The density of the outbreaks is causing increasing alarm, with some already calling the outbreak an epidemic. Chinese authorities, who had previously stressed the need for increased hygiene, have changed tack, and are now warning of harsh punishments for illegal poultry sales.
